Columbia Heights Public Schools Celebrates Groundbreaking Events

In celebration of the upcoming renovations and additions at Columbia Heights High School (CHHS) and North Park Elementary (NP), Columbia Heights Public Schools will host two groundbreaking ceremonies for each of the respective projects.

at CHHS (near the tennis courts)

North Park Elementary
6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29
at the North Park Playground

The upcoming renovations are the result of the three bond referendum questions that were passed by voters in November 2018. The requests were for a bond not to exceed $17,013,311 for safety, security and modernization of educational spaces at NP and CHHS.

“The improvements planned for NP address the school’s building security and educational needs to match other District and area schools,” said Director of Technology, Security & Building Operations Bryan Hennekens. “The plans for improved art spaces at CHHS will give the District an opportunity to retain and expand its performing and instrumental arts programming.”

Community, civic and arts organizations can also expect to benefit from the passage from the 2018 Bond Referendum questions through increased access and modernization of space.

“We are thankful voters are supportive of these important updates to our school buildings,” noted Hennekens.

The groundbreaking celebrations are free and open to the public. All are encouraged to come witness the historic event.
