Columbia Heights Public Schools Welcomes New Valley View Principal
Columbia Heights Public Schools (CHPS) welcomes Jason Kuhlman as the next Valley View Elementary Principal. The CHPS Board of Education approved the recommendation of Kuhlman at its June 11, 2019 Regular School Board Meeting. Kuhlman began his role July 1, 2019 in which he will continue to develop and maintain educational programs which align with increasing academic achievement and creating college and career-ready students.
“Growing up in a small town in northern Minnesota has given me many fond memories,” said Kuhlman. “CHPS and Valley View feels like I am coming home.”
Kuhlman will be responsible for meeting the diverse academic needs of over 540 learners in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. He will also lead, develop and support approximately 60 staff members.
With over two decades of education experience, Kuhlman brings a promising new future to Valley View. He began as an elementary teacher for St. Paul Public Schools and after 13 years, he transitioned to work as a math coach. Most recently, he served as the assistant principal for St. Paul Music Academy in 2016 until joining CHPS.
Kuhlman has a master’s degree in curriculum and design from St. Cloud State University and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Minnesota - Duluth. He holds a K-12 administrator license from the University of Minnesota.
“Kuhlman is an excellent addition to the CHPS administrative team,” said Superintendent Kathy Kelly. “He has valuable experience working with diverse learners and a strong academic background. I am confident that he will provide added leadership benefiting students, staff and families.”
“I am proud to part of such a cohesive community that prides itself on student learning. I truly look forward to begin the next chapter of my career as a Hylander,” said Kuhlman.
