Local Break Dancer ‘MN Joe’ Shows Highland Students a New Way to Move
Highland Elementary fifth-graders experienced a new way to move this week with a visit from Joseph “MN Joe” Tran – a local professional break dancer.
Funded by field trip money and a PTO grade-level grant, MN Joe brought an experience right to the classroom of Highland through a partnership with COMPAS – a network of teaching artists that work alongside teachers in the classroom to help spark imagination and create new possibilities for students.
Highland Fifth-Grade Teacher Regina Skoy who organized the visit explained that “instead of going off site for a field trip, MN Joe came to each of our fifth-grade and LEAP (gifted, multi-grade) classes three times, an hour each.”
Students were thrilled to get out their energy, learn from and collaborate with an expert, and show off their moves!
