Columbia Heights Public Schools Hosts Annual Community Pow Wow

Columbia Heights Public Schools (CHPS) will host the annual American Indian Community Pow Wow, noon, Saturday, May 22 at the Dick Borchardt Football Field, 1400 49th Avenue NE, Columbia Heights.

This year’s event will include grand entry, drumming, singing, dancing, honoring the six American Indian class of 2021 graduates, a jingle dress healing special, the Dave Larsen men’s traditional contest and more. The Pow Wow is FREE and open to the public.

The District is excited to welcome Redbone as this year’s host drum group and invited drum group Iron Boy.

“[This event] promises to be the largest event that [CHPS American] Indian Education has hosted,” said CHPS American Indian Education Mentor Valerie Larsen. “With the addition of two great drum groups – Redbone and Iron Boy – the Kalpulli KetzalCoatilcue Dancers, a men’s traditional special honoring Dave Larsen and six graduating American Indian seniors, we have a packed agenda, as well as free door prize drawings throughout the day.”

Registration is required. All current COVID-19 safety guidelines will be followed.
