Elsa Gives Columbia Heights Students #StayAtHome Encouragement
Queen Elsa of Arendelle had an important message for Columbia Heights Public Schools students last week: #StayAtHome.
Elsa aka Valley View Elementary Second Grade Teacher Caitlin Lehner belts reworked lyrics to the “Let It Go” ballad:, “Stay at home, stay at home. Don’t spread the germs anymore! Stay at home, stay at home. Turn away and stay indoors!”
It’s not everyday you see your teacher dress up as one of the most popular Disney characters but Lehner says singing is considered normal in her classroom. From giving directions and morning meeting activities to learning math and reading concepts, she tries to teach things using music.
“If you spent a day in my classroom, you would hear and find yourself singing songs throughout the day,” Lehner said, “When I was preparing my distance learning plans I knew I wanted to include a song for my students.”
Lehner said the idea came to her late at night ⎼ when good ideas always seem to make their way into our brains ⎼ so she got up and wrote down the lyrics for the chorus. The next morning, the rest of her rendition of the song fell into place.
“Mrs. Lehner has gone above and beyond to reach her students during distance learning,” said Valley View Principal Jason Kuhlman. “We asked staff to develop lessons that are real and relevant, as you can see Mrs. Lehner took it to heart. Her love and dedication to her students shines bright in this video.”
Lehner says she’s appreciated and loved the responses from students, staff and the general public. “I hope it has brought some joy and fun to the people who have watched it.”
