Application for Educational Benefits
Applications for free and reduced-price meals may be submitted at any time throughout the school year, even during a federal shutdown. If federal employees affected by the shutdown would like to apply for school meal benefits for their children, they may so do through the same process as any other household throughout the school year.
Columbia Heights Public Schools offers educational benefits to qualifying families including free and reduced price meals.
Education Benefits...
Help your family:
- Qualifying students receive breakfast and lunch at no cost.
- Families receive reduced rates for middle and high school activities.
- Families receive reduced tuition for early childhood programming.
- Students receive reduced AP testing and college application fees.
Help your school:
- Provides scholarships for students to attend early childhood programming.
- Allows the District to receive Title 1 funds for academic support.
- Helps District secure compensatory funds to reduce class sizes, provide counseling and social work services, and hire media specialists and educational assistants.
Who should complete the application?
You should complete the Application for Education Benefits if any of the following items apply to your household
- Any member of your household currently participates in the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP), the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR).
- Your household’s total income is within the qualifying guidelines shown in the graph below. These guidelines denote gross earnings before deductions, not take-home pay. Do not include foster care payments, federal education benefits, MFIP payments or value of assistance received from SNAP, WIC or FDPIR as income.
- Military. Do not include combat pay assistant from the Military Privatized Housing Incentive as income.
- Your household includes one or more foster child (a welfare agency or court has legal responsibility for the child(ren)
