Columbia Heights Public Schools to Offer Meal Delivery for Students
Columbia Heights Public Schools (CHPS) will continue to provide meals for families during the Heights from Home learning model this fall. We will be offering home delivery of weekly meal kits to students.
"CHPS is excited to be able to offer home delivery of meals this fall during the Heights from Home learning period,” said Food Services Manager Maggie Maggio. “By delivering meals to our students’ home we hope to make receiving meals easier for families. We are also able to offer a greater variety of foods, all of which can be safely consumed cold or reheated in the microwave via the instructions provided with the meals."
To opt in to home delivery please complete this survey as soon as possible. To receive meals the first week of school complete the survey by Aug. 31, 2020. All requests received after Aug. 31 will not receive meals until the second week of school.
Each student’s meal kit will include five (5) breakfasts (entree, fruit, milk) and five (5) lunches (entree, fruit, vegetable, milk).
Due to federal rules changes there are different requirements for these meals than in the spring or summer:
- Meals can only be provided to students who are enrolled in CHPS (PreK- grade 12).
- Families must be charged for meals according to their free/reduced/paid meal status. If your family does not qualify for free or reduced-price meals, your student’s meal account will be charged $2.55 per elementary meal ($12.75/week) and $2.80 per middle school or high school meal ($14/week). Breakfast is free for all students.
- We are not able to provide meals for weekends or non-school days.
The last day of the District’s summer food sites is Friday, Aug. 21. During the two-week gap, Maggio encourages families to utilize resources from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Hunger Solutions.
