    Discussion, Reports and Information Items

    Reports from Members of the Board

    Chair Naty Severson attended two School Board Chair meetings, an Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD) board meeting and two board training sessions. She also attended a softball game, and Columbia Academy (CA) and Columbia Heights High Schools' (CHHS) joint presentation of "The Wizard of Oz."

    Vice Chair Lorien Mueller attended a School Board Chair meeting and two training sessions. She also attended the community powwow, "The Wizard of Oz," some baseball games and the end-of-season synchronized swimming show.

    Clerk Laura Palmer attended two board training sessions.

    Treasurer Hala Asamarai did not report.

    Director Mary Granlund attended the CHHS Virtual Academic Awards Ceremony, two board training sessions, the community powwow. She spoke with Superintendent Stenvik about the recent Community Engagement Session and was able to connect with State Senator Kunesh and State Representative Feist. Granlund also had conversations with caregivers, students and staff.

    Director Molly Lewis attended the CHHS Virtual Academic Awards Ceremony, CA and CHHS track meets, "The Wizard of Oz," and two training sessions. She also had conversations with parents.

    Superintendent's Report
    Superintendent Zena Stenvik shared the District received more COVID-19 relief funding to support robust summer programming for early childhood through grade 12, which will assist with the District's academic acceleration. She shared that Columbia Heights Public Schools staff are in the process of completing an Equimetrics survey, which will provide baseline data in nine categories and help the District pinpoint areas of improvement. Superintendent Stenvik also attended the community powwow and "The Wizard of Oz."
     Stenvik thanked the City of Columbia Heights, Anoka County, Special Education Director John Fry and District Nurse Nicole Boisvert for organizing the recent COVID-19 vaccination clinic. She also had conversations with Chair Severson, Vice Chair Mueller, Director Lewis and Director Granlund.

    Employee of the Year
    Director of Human Resources Lindsey Bennett announced Research and Assessment Coordinator Disa Fabeck as the, will be recognized as the 2020-2021 Columbia Heights Public Schools Employee of the Year.

    Director of Teaching & Learning Tara Thukral presented information on the ESSA Grants for 2020-2021. View the presentation.

    National School Board Association (NSBA) Membership
    Chair Severson presented information on the Board's NSBA membership.
