    Discussion, Reports and Information Items

    Reports from Members of the Board

    Chair Naty Severson attended two School Board Chair meetings and the community vigil for Daunte Wright organized by the City of Columbia Heights. She also had conversations with Superintendent Stenvik and attended softball, boys tennis and lacrosse matches.

    Vice Chair Lorien Mueller attended the April 20 Work Session, two School Board Chair meetings, a Community Engagement Subcommittee meeting, and the community vigil for Daunte Wright. She completed phase 3 of the Minnesota School Board Association training and began phase 4. Mueller also attended and volunteered at a synchronized swim meet and attended some baseball games.

    Clerk Laura Palmer attended the April 20 Work Session.

    Treasurer Hala Asamarai attended the April 20 Work Session, a Community Engagement Subcommittee meeting and had communication with Superintendent Stenvik.

    Director Mary Granlund attended the April 20 Work Session. She also connected with Valley View Principal Jason Kuhlman and had conversations with community members.

    Director Molly Lewis attended the April 20 Work Session, a Community Engagement Subcommittee meeting, the community vigil for Daunte Wright, and a Community Crisis Response Team meeting with City of Columbia Heights Mayor. She watched a track meet, and had conversations with parents, students and community members. Lewis also had a conversation with Superintendent Stenvik.

    Superintendent's Report
    Superintendent Zena Stenvik shared the District continues to dedicate significant time to COVID-19 related mitigation including contact tracing, social distancing, working with modified schedules, transportation and on-site testing. The District Administrative team, comprised of all directors and principals, has been meeting weekly to discuss the learning model implementation and COVID-related items. At the team's last meeting, they discussed student and staff mental health. Superintendent Stenvik shared how the District Student Support Team has created resources and materials for both staff and families to support their mental health. She also shared that the District will be able to provide mental health support through the summer months. The Superintendent also had conversations with multiple Board members.

    City of Columbia Heights Update
    City of Columbia Heights Council Member Connie Buesgens gave an update.

    Federal COVID-19 Relief Funding
    Director of Finance & Operations Bryan Hennekens presented information on the new COVID-19 Relief Funding.

    School Board Sub-committee on Community Engagement Update
    Vice Chair Lorien Mueller, Member Lewis and Member Asamarai presented an update on recent sub-committee activities.
