    Reports from Members of the Board

    Chair Naty Severson attended the Sept. 15 School Board Work Session, two School Board Chair meetings and sub-committee on policy meeting. She also attended a tour of North Park Elementary

    Vice Chair Lorien Mueller attended the Sept. 15 School Board Work Session and two School Board Chair meetings. She also had conversations with community members. 

    Clerk Molly Lewis attended the Sept. 15 School Board Work Session, a sub-committee on policy meeting and a tour of North Park Elementary. She also had conversations with parents and teachers.

    Treasurer Laura Palmer attended the Sept. 15 School Board Work Session, a sub-committee on policy meeting and had a conversation Superintendent Zena Stenvik.

    Director Hala Asamarai did not attend.

    Director John Larkin did not attend.

    Superintendent's Report
    Superintendent Zena Stenvik continues to participate in weekly phone calls with the Commissioner of Education and metro-area superintendents. She shared how the E-12 Administrative meeting prepared for student groups that will begin on campus next week for modified hybrid learning. Filming began for the virtual ribbon cuttings at Columbia Heights High School and North Park Elementary, expected to be released sometime in October. The Superintendent shared the Minnesota State High School League has approved football and volleyball for competition this fall. Stenvik also attended the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee meeting and had a conversation with School Board Member Palmer.

    Opening of School Building Updates
    Director of Community Education & Communications Kristen Stuenkel, along with each principal (Michele Janke - Highland, Jeff Cacek - North Park, Jason Kuhlman - Valley View, Duane Berkas - Columbia Academy, Dan Wrobleski - Columbia Heights High School) presented information on opening of school activities at each building including student orientation, device distribution, open houses and staff supports.     Save the Music Grant
    Director of Teaching & Learning Tara Thukral and Highland Principal Michele Janke presented information on how Save the Music Grant will support Highland Elementary’s music program in PreK 4 through grade 5. View the presentation. View the presentation.

    Project Lead the Way Grant
    Director of Teaching & Learning Tara Thukral and North Park Principal Jeff Cacek presented information about how the Project Lead the Way Grant will be used to begin the redesign of North Park Elementary as a STEM school. View the presentation.

    Policy First Reading
    School Board Chair Naty Severson did a first reading of the following policies: 419 - Tobacco-Free Environment: Possession and Use of Tobacco, Tobacco-Related Devises, and Electronic Delivery Devices; 422 - Policies Incorporated by Reference; 522 - Title IX Sex Nondiscrimination Policy, Grievance Procedure and Process; 522 - Form; 534 - Unpaid Meal Charges; 535 - Service Animals in Schools; 541 - Tele-related Services Policy; 902 - Use of School Facilities. These policies will appear on a future agenda for approval.


    Action Items
