    Acknowledgement of Contributions

    Chair John Larkin announced, and the School Board approved, a resolution for accepting current contributions in the amount of $13,670.19. The total fiscal year contributions to date is $77,944.40.


    Reports from Members of the Board

    Strategic Roadmap planning session Chair Larkin participated in the June 12 Business Meeting and the June 12 Board Chair meeting. He participated in a Strategic Roadmap planning meeting that focused on drafting proposed revisions to the Mission Statement, Core Values and Strategic Directions. Chair Larson also participated in the City of Columbia Heights Picnic and the 2018 Jamboree Parade. The  Chair also attended the School Board Candidate Orientation Session.

    Vice Chair Naty Severson was not present.

    Treasurer Lorien Mueller participated in the June 12 School Board Business  School Board candidates at Candidate Forum Meeting and the Strategic Roadmap planning meeting. Ms. Mueller also participated in the 2018 Jamboree Parade and fireworks.

    Clerk Hala Asamarai was not present.

    Director Molly Lewis participated in the June 12 School Board Business Meeting and the Strategic Roadmap planning meeting. Ms. Lewis participated in the School Board Candidate Orientation and the Jamboree Parade. She also had numerous conversations with constituents.

    Director Laura Palmer participated in the June 12 School Board Business Meeting, the Strategic Roadmap planning meeting and the 2018 Jamboree Parade.


    Reports and Information Items 

    Comprehensive Communications Plan Annual Update

    Director Mahon taking a photo of a student Director of Communications Casey Mahon provided the annual update of the 2013-2018 Comprehensive Communications Plan. As part of establishing the Communications Department in 2013, a National Schools Public Relations Association audit was conducted and from its recommendations a Columbia Heights Public Schools (CHPS) 2014-2018 Comprehensive Communications Plan was implemented. This is the fourth and final presentation of the plan to the School Board.

    Metro ECSU Membership

    Director of Teaching and Learning Zena Stenvik shared that the Metropolitan Educational Cooperative Service Unit (ECSU) delivers services to school districts while reducing costs through collaboration. In 2017-2018, she said District staff benefited from among others professional development, including the Metropolitan Principals’ Academy. Director Stenvik recommended this District continue its membership at $3,689.80 for the 2018-2019 school year. This informational item will be brought forward as an Action Item at a future Business Meeting.

    Northeast Metro Intermediate 916 District Special Education and Related Staffing Agreement

    Director of Special Education Dr. John Fry shared that the purpose of this annual agreement is for NE Metro Intermediate District 916 to continue providing special education and related staffing and services for students enrolled in and receiving educational and associated services in CHPS. This informational item will be brought forward as an Action Item at a future Business Meeting.

    Tri Metro Conference Update

    K-12 Activities Director Antwan Harris provided an update of changes to take place within the conference. Among the upcoming changes are for 2018-2019 two schools (Concordia Academy and St. Agnes) will leave the Conference while Richfield is being considered to join by 2019-2020.  

    K-12 Activities Update

    Director Harris provided the Spring 2018 update to the School Board. Included in the presentation were activities and athletic highlights, as well as awards and recognitions, from throughout the past school year.

    Action Items

    Minnesota State High School League Membership

    The School Board approved the request for continued MSHSL membership.

    External User Access Recertification System Official with Authority 

    The School Board approved appointing Superintendent Kathy Kelly as presented at the June 12 Business Meeting.

    2018-2019 Budget

    The School Board approved the 2018-2019 Budget.

    Workers Compensation Insurance Renewal

    The School Board approved renewing the Workers Compensation insurance.

    Out of State and Overnight Field Trip

    The School Board approved the request.

    Every Student Succeeds Act Grants 

    The School Board approved the ESSA grants.

    Local Education Agency (LEA) Authorization

    The School Board approved authorizing Zena Stenvik the LEA authorization.

    Minnesota School Board Association membership

    The School Board approved the annual MSBA membership.

    Appointment of School Board Representative to the Sub-Committee on Policy

    The School Board approved the appointment of Vice Chair Naty Severson to replace Chair John Larkin.

    Safe Schools Resolution

    The School Board approved a resolution addressing safety and security in Columbia Heights Public Schools.
