    Nov. 21, 2017 Work Session

    2016-2017 Audit

    Director of Finance and Operations Kristine Carr introduced Matt Mayer, an auditor with BerganKDV, who reported out on the findings of the fiscal year school District audit. Mr. Mayer shared the District will receive an overall Unmodified Opinion (positive audit). This informational item will be brought forward as an Action Item at the Dec. 12 School Board Business Meeting. View the PowerPoint presentation.

    TIES Update

    Superintendent Kathy Kelly, Director of Technology and Security Services Bryan Hennekens and Director Carr provided an update on the TIES organization audit, the annual meeting, discussion on the future of that organization, Districts that have submitted letters of withdrawal from TIES (including Columbia Heights Public Schools), product, financial and legal issues and next steps of how these and other-related factors may affect this District.

    School Board Organizational Meeting

    Superintendent Kelly shared the Organizational Meeting takes place the first Tuesday of January and that for the School Board to prepare for the meeting she provided copies of Process for Electing A School Board based on Roberts Rules of Order. 

    Building Capacity

    Superintendent Kelly briefed the School Board on enrollment as it relates to building capacity. This was an informational discussion with no action taken. 

    Educational Access

    Superintendent Kelly told the School Board the District has received a request for data. She added the request has been sent to multiple districts throughout the state. The Superintendent reported District staff is in the process of collecting the requested data. 

    Transportation

    Superintendent Kelly and Director Carr shared a communication related to transportation.

    Chair John Larkin: Columbia Heights Business Council, School Board Policy Sub-Committee and Liaison to North Park Elementary School.

    Vice Chair Laura Palmer: Association of Metropolitan School Districts, Minnesota School Board Association Legislative Liaison, NE Metro Intermediate District 916 Board and Liaison to the Family Center.

    Clerk Naty Severson: Minnesota State High School League, Liaison to City of Columbia Heights, School Board Policy Sub-Committee and Liaison to Columbia Heights High School.

    Treasurer Hala Asamarai: TIES, School Board Policy Sub-Committee and Liaison to Highland Elementary School.

    Director Molly Lewis: Liaison to the City of Fridley and Liaison to Columbia Academy.

    Director Lorien Mueller: Educational Cooperative Service Unit, Liaison to the City of Hilltop and Liaison to Valley View Elementary School.
