    Oct. 10, 2017 Regular Meeting      

    Reports from Members of the Board

    Community Forum Chair John Larkin participated in the Sept. 26 Business Meeting and Sept. 26 and Oct. 10 Board Chair and Sub-Committee on Policy meetings. He also attended a Citizens for Safer Streets meeting, attended the Highland Elementary School picnic and a high school football game followed by tailgating. Chair Larkin also announced the District is hosting three 2017 Bond Referendum Community Forums: 

    • 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, Columbia Heights High School
    • 6:15 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16, North Park Elementary School
    • 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, Columbia Heights High School

    Vice Chair Laura Palmer participated in the Sept. 26 Business Meeting, the Sept. 26 and Oct. 10 Board Chair and Oct. 10 Sub-Committee on Policy meetings. Ms. Palmer also participated in a NE Metro Intermediate District 916 Board meeting, attended Highland Elementary School conferences and had many conversations with constituents.
    Homecoming Royalty
    Clerk Naty Severson participated in the Sept. 26 Business Meeting and the Oct. 10 Sub-Committee on Policy Meeting. She also attended the high school Academic Awards Night, football games and had numerous conversations with constituents.

    Treasurer Hala Asamarai was not present.

    Director Molly Lewis participated in the Sept. 26 Business Meeting. She also attended high school and middle school football games and a Strikers' adaptive soccer game and the 2017 Homecoming Coronation (photo of King, Queen, Princess and Prince). Ms. Lewis also had many conversations with constituents.

    Director Lorien Mueller participated in the Sept. 26 Business Meeting. She also attended the Citizens for Safer Streets meeting, the high school Academic Awards Night and middle school football games. She also had conversations with constituents.


    Superintendent's Report 

    Superintendent Kathy Kelly participated in the Sept. 26 Business and Board Chair Meetings. She also participated in the Oct. 10 Sub-Committee on Policy and Board Chair meetings. The Superintendent attended an American Indian Academic Awards Education parent meeting, a school law conference, a Citizens for Safer Streets meeting, an Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD) meeting, a North Suburban Post-Secondary Consortium meeting, a Superintendent's meeting and an E-12 Leadership Team meeting. Superintendent Kelly also met with Interim Columbia Heights Chief of Police Lenny Austin and was interviewed for the annual financial audit. She also attended the high school Academic Awards Night, the Highland Elementary School Fun Night, a Strikers' adaptive soccer game and had individual discussions with School Board members.

    Building Vision Card - Valley View Elementary School

    Valley View student Valley View Elementary School Principal Ed Fellows and Director of Teaching and Learning Zena Stenvik provided the annual update to the School Board of Vision Cards that align to the District Strategic Plan. Their presentation included:

    • Focus area updates: Programs and strategies
    • Outreach: Parents and community

    The School Board approved the revised report.

    Local 710 Teacher Agreement

    The School Board approved an agreement between Columbia Heights Public Schools and the Columbia Heights Federation of Teachers Local 710 covering the school years 2017-2018 and 2018-2019.

    Designation of Electronic Transfer Designees

    The School Board approved as designees Director of Finance and Operations Kristine Carr and Deputy Director of Finance and Operations Denise Sundstrom.

    The School Board approved the following policies:

    203.2 - Order of Regular School Board Meeting
    602 - Organization of School Calendar and School Day

    Ms. Severson said there will be tailgating and Chair Larkin added that Homecoming is this Friday (Oct. 13).
