    Sept. 26, 2017 Regular Meeting      

    Communication to the School Board 

    A parent addressed the School Board on the Citizens for Safer Streets initiative.

    Acknowledgment of Contributions 

    Chair John Larkin announced, and the School Board approved, a resolution for accepting current contributions in the amount of $2,871.50. The total fiscal (2017-2018) contributions to date is $3,955.07.

    Reports from Members of the Board

    Chair Larkin participated in the Sept. 12 Business Meeting, the Sept. 19 Work Session and Sept. 26 Board Chair Meeting. The Chair attended the Columbia Heights Police Department Meet and Greet picnic. He also attended a high school football game and tailgating event.

    Vice Chair Laura Palmer participated in the Sept. 12 Business Meeting and the Sept. 19 Work Session.

    Clerk Naty Severson participated in the Sept. 12 Business Meeting and Sept. 19 Work Session. She participated in a Get Out the Vote webinar and attended a high school football game and a tennis match, Boosters' Club events, a community open house and met with constituents.

    Treasurer Hala Asamarai participated in the Sept. 12 Business Meeting and Sept. 19 Work Session and met with constituents and students.

    Director Molly Lewis participated in the Sept. 12 Business Meeting and Sept. 19 Listening Session and Work Session. She also attended varsity, Columbia Academy and Strikers' football games.

    Director Lorien Mueller participated in the Sept. 12 Business Meeting and the Sept. 19 Work Session. She also participated in a Get Out the Vote Webinar. Director Mueller attended a Columbia Academy PTO meeting, the Valley View picnic and a high school football game. She also had conversations with constituents.


    Superintendent's Report 

    Columbia Academy football Superintendent Kathy Kelly participated in the Sept. 12 Business Meeting, the Sept. 19 Work Session and the Sept. 26 Board Chair meeting. The Superintendent attended a Columbia Academy football game (CA won) and the Columbia Heights Police Department Meet and Greet. She announced a tentative agreement with Local 710 Education Minnesota. The Superintendent and Chair Larkin attended a memorial service for former employee Tim Larsen. She and Operations Manager Tom Foley met to discuss the condition of the high school tennis courts. The Superintendent attended the fall meeting of the high school Anchor Program, a NE Metro Intermediate District 916 Superintendent's meeting, an Administrative Team meeting and a Superintendent's meeting to discuss issues of mutual concern relating to the TIES organization. The Superintendent attended the Crestview Senior Community Gala. She also provided factual information on the 2017 Bond Referendum, including an upcoming mailing to all residents and community meetings. Lastly, the Superintendent had multiple conversations with School Board members.

    2017 World's Best Workforce Annual Report World's Best Workforce Report

    Director Stenvik provided an overview of the 2017 World's Best Workforce Annual Report. Director Stenvik shared the final draft of the Report, which will be mailed next month to all residents within the School District. The report, a requirement of the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), includes District goals,"By the Numbers" data, early childhood, elementary, middle and high school offered programming and highlights from the previous school year.     Bond Referendum fact sheet Minnesota Department of Education Review and Comment 

    Director of Technology and Security Bryan Hennekens and North Park Elementary School Principal Jeff Cacek reported MDE issued a positive "Review and Comment" for the 2017 Bond Referendum. The document authorizes the District to proceed with the Nov. 7 ballot question. To know more, download and print the "What You Need to Know" fact sheet.

    Action Items

    Resolution Appointing Election Judges

    The School Board approved the resolution appointing judges for the Nov. 7 Special Election.

    Pay 2017, Pay 2018 Preliminary Tax Levy

    The School Board approved the levy, at the maximum level, which guarantees this District will receive all revenue in which it is eligible.

    Closed Session

    The School Board met in closed session, in accordance with Minnesota Stat. §13D.03, for the purpose of discussing negotiations.

    Chair Larkin discussed the timeline regarding the development of the updated Strategic Roadmap.
