Chair John Larkin announced, and the School Board approved, a resolution for accepting current contributions in the amount of $1,083.57.

Superintendent Kathy Kelly participated in the Aug. 8 Business Meeting, Aug. 15 Work Session and Aug. 22 Board Chair Meeting. The Superintendent attended the Association of Minnesota School Districts and Minnesota Department of Education Superintendent Conference. She reported the E-12 Leadership Team had a retreat with a focus on pre-planning for the strategic planning process. The retreat also included Summer Seminar presentationsfrom six Columbia Heights High School freshmen. Superintendent Kelly congratulated the high school for being selected to the U.S. News and World Report 2017 Best High Schools rankings. The school, awarded a Silver Medal, was ranked 55th out of 769 schools in Minnesota. The Superintendent reported that negotiations with Local 710 of Education Minnesota are continuing.

21st Century Community Learning Center Grant
Director of Teaching and Learning Zena Stenvik and Director of Community Education Kristen Stuenkel provided information on the 21st Century Learning Center Grant application for Columbia Heights Public Schools in partnership with the Columbia Heights Recreation Department. The Grant will extend student learning beyond the school day, starting with the 2017-2018 School Year, for CHPS students in grades 1 through 12. The focus of the grant will be on Technology, Arts, Environmental Studies, Health/Fitness and Academic Support. View the PowerPoint presentation.
National School Boards Association (NSBA) Annual Conference
Chair Larkin shared the annual conference is April 7 to 9, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas. Per School Board Policy 214, prior approval is required to attend the NSBA conference. Chair Larkin noted that expenditures are reflected in the School Board budget.
