2023 School Board Candidate Filing

  • The Columbia Heights Public Schools (CHPS) Board of Education (BOE) seat will open for filings on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 and will be open until Tuesday, August 15, 2023. Individuals interested in running for office must file an Affidavit of Candidacy and pay a $2 filing fee at the District Center (1440 49th Avenue NE, Columbia Heights, MN 55421). 

    Packets with filing forms and information are available in the District Center lobby during CHPS's normal business hours from August 1st to the 15th, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. On August 15, 2023, the CHPS District Center will accept filings until 5:00 p.m. and applicants will have until 5:00 p.m. on August 17, 2023 to retract their filing.

    One seat will be up for election for a term beginning on November 14, 2023 and ending January 6, 2025. This is a one-year term to finish the term held by former CHPS Board of Education Chair-person, Naty Severson, who stepped down from her position in October, 2022. The CHPS BOE appointed Michelle Pettway as her replacement until, in accordance with state law, CHPS holds a special election for the vacant seat which will take place on November 7, 2023.
