Jan. 10, 2017 Business Meeting
The School Board honored Columbia Heights High School Assistant Principal John Kulick who is a recipient of a 2016 Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction Award from the National Society of High School Scholars. Assistant Principal Kulick was joined by his nominator, senior Sabrina Tobe. To know more, read the news release.

Chair John Larkin participated in the Jan. 3, 2017 Special Called School Board Organizational Meeting, the Jan. 10 Board Chair meeting and the Board Sub-Committee on Policy, the Minnesota School Board Association (MSBA) Governance Training and the Association of Metropolitan School Districts (pictured with Rep. Connie Bernardy) Legislative Breakfast. He also attended the Columbia Academy musical Annie Jr. and the Meet and Greet for the new Columbia Heights mayor and council members.
Vice Chair Laura Palmer participated in the Jan. 3, 2017 Special Called School Board Organizational Meeting, attended the AMSD Legislative Breakfast Luncheon and had a meeting with Treasurer Hala Asamarai.
Clerk Naty Severson participated in the Jan. 3, 2017 Special Called School Board Organizational Meeting, the Jan. 10 Board Sub-Committee on Policy meeting attended a junior varsity basketball game. She also attended the Highland Elementary School winter sing concert and the Columbia Academy musical Annie Jr.
Treasurer Hala Asamarai participated in the Jan. 3, 2017 Special Called School Board Organizational Meeting and the Jan. 10 Sub-Committee on Policy Meeting. She also had separate conversations with Vice Chair Laura Palmer and Superintendent Kathy Kelly. Ms. Asamarai also attended a reception for the former Columbia Heights mayor and a council member and the Meet and Greet for the new Columbia Heights mayor and council members.
Director Molly Lewis participated in the Jan. 3, 2017 Special Called School Board Organizational Meeting, had conversations with community members and School Board Directors and Superintendent Kathy Kelly.
Director Lorien Mueller participated in the Jan. 3, 2017 Special Called School Board Organizational Meeting, attended initial MSBA governance training
and had a meeting with Superintendent Kathy Kelly and Director of Human Resources Lindsey Bennett.
Superintendent Kathy Kelly participated in the Jan. 3, 2017 Special Called School Board Organizational Meeting, the Jan. 10 Chair Meeting and the Sub-Committee on Policy meeting. She also attended the AMSD Legislative Breakfast (pictured right with Rep. Mary Kunesh-Podein and Senator Carolyn Laine) and swimming, wrestling and basketball events.

Age 3 to Grade 3 Task Force
Director of Community Education Kristen Stuenkel, Director of Teaching and Learning Zena Stenvik and Highland Elementary School Principal Michele DeWitt, provided the annual update. The Age 3 to Grade 3 Task Force is a collaboration between Early Childhood, the Teaching and Learning Department and this District's three elementary schools. The goal is to create alignment from Prekindergarten (age 3) through 3rd grade. The task force began in the 2014-2015 school year with a focus on bridging the link between Early Childhood programming and kindergarten readiness in the area of literacy. This year the Task Force is working to align informational curriculum guides for families.

Strategic Roadmap F: Fiscally Responsible
Each year, aligned to the District Mission and the Strategic Roadmap, directors report out on the status of their respective Strategic Directions. Director Bill Holmgren provided information related to Strategic Roadmap F: Fiscally Responsible.

Revised 2016-2017 Budget
Director Holmgrem provided updated information related to the revised 2016-2017 budget. In presenting, Director Holmgren referenced School Board Policy 701.1D, Modification of School District Budget. The revised budget will be presented to the School Board for approval at the Jan. 24, 2017 meeting.

Upcoming Capital Projects
Director Holmgren briefed on 2017 summer capital projects, funded by Long Term Facility Maintenance (LTFM), Capital or 2014 Capital Project Levy. These projects include:
- New Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) system in the high school arts wing
- High school cold water repiping
- Columbia Academy new windows

Bids for High School Cold Water Piping Replacement
Director Holmgrem provided a recommendation to the School Board to approve at an upcoming meeting NAC Mechanical and Electrical Services for the contract of the high school cold water piping replacement. The recommendation is based on six bids with NAC submitting the lowest overall bid at $375,400 (approximately $125,000 less than the highest bid).

905 - Advertising. This policy will appear on a future School Board agenda for recommended approval.
