    Nov. 15, 2016 Work Session

    2016 Audit

    Director of Finance and Operations Bill Holmgren introduced Auditor Matt Meyer from BergenKDV who provided the School Board an overview of the 2016 financial audit. The findings will be formally presented to the School Board at the Nov. 22 Business Meeting.

    2017 Levy Update

    Columbia Academy RISE UP Program

    Superintendent Kathy Kelly and Columbia Academy Principal Duane Berkas briefed the School Board on the school's RISE UP Program.

    Nov. 15, 2016 Business Meeting

    Communications to the Board

    A citizen requested to speak on a student issue. Due to Data Privacy Issues, the individual was referred to Director of Student Services Nicole Halabi

    Reports from Members of the Board

    Chair John Larkin participated in the Nov. 15 Work Session and Board Chair Meeting and attended the Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD) meeting. He also attended high school conferences, the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony and a Highland Elementary School PTO event and met with constituents.

    Vice Chair Laura Palmer participated in a NE Metro Intermediate District 916 Board Meeting, attended an AMSD Policy Conference and participated in the Nov. 15 School Board Work Session and Chair meeting.

    Treasurer Molly Lewis participated in the Nov. 15 School Board Listening and Work Sessions, attended high school conferences and a Highland Elementary School PTO event, a football game and a Strikers' adapted soccer game. She also met with constituents.

    Clerk Ted Landwehr shared he will attend the Delegate Assembly Pre-Meeting for the Minnesota School Board Association and that he participated in the Nov. 15 School Board Listening and Work Sessions. 

    Naty Severson and son Director Naty Severson participated in the Nov. 15 Work Session, attended high school conferences, attended a varsity football game and met with constituents.

    Director Hala Asamarai participated in the Nov. 15 Work Session, attended high school conferences and met with constituents.

    Superintendent's Report

    CHHS Fall Play Superintendent Kathy Kelly participated with Director of Teaching and Learning Zena Stenvik in literacy visits to schools and attended the AMSD Policy Conference. She attended the high school National Honor Society induction, participated in the Nov. 15 Work Session and met with School Board directors. Superintendent Kelly also announced that the CHHS Drama Program Fall Play is Elephant's Graveyard and the CHHS Band and Choir concert is Monday, Nov. 21.

    Building Vision Card: Columbia Heights High School

    High School student Each year, as part of the Strategic Roadmap, the School Board is briefed on the status of each component of the plan. Columbia Heights High School Principal Dan Wrobleski addressed the following for the high school:

    Electronic Application System for Indian Education (EASIE)

    Directors Halabi and Stenvik updated the School Board on EASIE, a program focused on supporting American Indian Education students.

    Academic Return on Investment

    Director Stenvik and Director Hennekens shared a team of key District leaders are working alongside NE Metro Intermediate District 916 staff with support of the District Management Council in the Academic Return on Investment (A-ROI) process.     AP Scholars Advanced Placement (AP), College Board Curriculum and ACT Scores

    Director Stenvik, Principal Wrobleski and Research and Assessment Coordinator Disa Fabeck provided a program overview, District offerings data and more. View their PowerPoint presentation.     North Suburban Post-Secondary Success Consortium Joint Powers Agreement

    Superintendent Kelly briefed on the discussion about a possible Columbia Heights Public Schools' consortium with Mounds View, Fridley, Spring Lake Park and Roseville public school districts for post-secondary success.

    Action Items

    Canvass Nov. 8, 2016 School Board Election  

    The School Board approved a resolution to canvass the results of the Nov. 8, 2016 election. The three individuals elected to serve four-year terms on the Columbia Heights School Board are John Larkin, Lorien Mueller and Naty Severson. The official results can be viewed on the Secretary of State website.
