Acknowledgement of Contributions
Chair John Larkin announced, and the School Board approved, a resolution for accepting current contributions in the amount of $2,490. The total fiscal year 2016-2017 monetary contributions to date is $7,383.47.
Reports from Members of the Board
Chair John Larkin participated in the Oct. 11 Business Meeting, the Oct. 18, 2016 Work Session and the Oct. 18 Listening Session. Chair Larkin participated in the Oct. 18 School Board Candidate Forum (second from left in photo) and attended the Academic Lettering Ceremony at Columbia Heights High School. He also attended a varsity football game and the Oct. 25 School Board Chair meeting.
Vice Chair Laura Palmer participated in the Oct. 11 Business Meeting and the Oct. 18 Work Session and attended conferences at Highland Elementary School.
Treasurer Molly Lewis participated in the Oct. 11 Business Meeting and the Oct. 18 Work Session. She attended conferences at Columbia Academy and Highland Elementary School and attended football and adaptive soccer games. Director Lewis also had conversations with constituents.
Clerk Ted Landwehr participated in the Oct. 11 Business Meeting, the Oct. 18 Work Session and the Oct. 18 Listening Session. Mr. Landwehr also participated in the Oct. 18 School Board Candidate Forum (first from left in photo) and met with constituents.
Director Naty Severson participated in the Oct. 11 Business Meeting and the Oct. 18 Work Session. Ms. Severson participated in the Oct. 18 School Board Candidate Forum (far right in photo). Director Severson also attended varsity and junior varsity football games and had conversations with constituents.
Director Hala Asamarai participated in the Oct. 11 Business Meeting and the Oct. 18 Work Session. Director Asamarai met with Superintendent Kathy Kelly and attended the Academic Lettering Ceremony at Columbia Heights High School.

Superintendent Kathy Kelly participated in the Oct. 11 Business Meeting and the Oct. 18 Work Session and attended the Oct. 18 School Board Candidate Forum. Superintendent Kelly announced that the Oct. 18 Local 710 Candidate Forum can be watched online (use link above) and that the District will hold a free screening and follow-on reflective discussion of the nationally-acclaimed film “Paper Tigers,” 3:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 at the CHHS Performing Arts Center. The Superintendent also shared that there are no School District meetings Tuesday, Nov. 8 (Election Day).

Transportation Walk Zone
Director of Finance and Operations Bill Holmgren presented the School Board with updated information on the District's student walking areas and their relationship with school bus transportation. View Director Holmgren's Walking Distance presentation.
Director of Teaching and Learning Zena Stenvik and Staff Development Coordinator Jen Babiash provided the annual update. Her presentation included the number of students who attended Summer Academy, staff retention, parent satisfaction survey and parent communication. View the Summer Academy presentation.
Assurance of Compliance with State and Federal Law Prohibiting Discrimination
Director of Human Resources Lindsey Bennett, Director of Teaching and Learning Zena Stenvik and Director of Student Services Nicole Halabi briefed that pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, section 127A.42, subd.3, School Boards must annually submit to the Commissioner of Education a Statement of Compliance with state and federal laws prohibiting discrimination and provide the designated supporting information to assure that statement. The School Board approved the request.
Superintendent's 2016-2017 Goals
The School Board approved Superintendent Kathy Kelly's goals as presented at the Oct. 18, 2016 Work Session.
Additional November Work Session and Change of December Meeting
The School Board approved adding a Work Session for 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 15 and moved the December Regular Meeting from the 13th to the 6th.
