    Three individuals addressed the School Board regarding School Board Director Grant Nichols.

    • Chair John Larkin deferred his report.
    • Vice Chair Ted Landwehr provided a budget update of the West Metro Education Program.

    • Treasurer Molly Lewis deferred her report.

    • Clerk Laura Palmer deferred her report.

    • Director Grant Nichols announced his resignation from the Columbia Heights School Board.

    • Superintendent Kathy Kelly deferred her report.

    Opening of School Building Updates: Director of Community Education Kristen Stuenkel (on behalf of the Early Childhood Education Program) and Principals Jeff Cacek (North Park), Willie Fort (Valley View), Duane Berkas (Columbia Academy) and Dan Wrobleski (Columbia Heights High School) provided an update on each of their programs and schools (Principal Michele DeWitt was unable to attend and will present at an upcoming School Board Regular Business meeting).     Indian Land Tenure Foundation Curriculum and Recognition: Interim Director of Teaching and Learning Zena Stenvik and Curriculum Coordinator Tara Thukral provided a presentation on the status of the American Indian curriculum. Their presentation included professional development, state standards, books, processes and collaborative efforts.  Additionally, Nicholas Emmons from the Indian Land Tenure Foundation recognized the Department of Teaching and Learning for its Indian Education curriculum.     Valley View Elementary School Vision Card: Principal Willie Fort and Assistant Principal John Awsumb provided the school's annual update to the District Strategic Roadmap.  Their presentation included:

    Heights Lites:
    The School Board discussed the criteria for this School Board recognition program.  Discussion included possibly changing the name of the program and redefining the criteria (currently honorees are students who place in the top three at a Minnesota State High School League state competition and a student or staff member who earned a state or national award in other areas.  The topic will be researched for further discussion.

     Action Items


    MSHSL Resolution:
    The School Board approved a resolution for a Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) grant of $5,000, which will be used to further support activity programs.

    Annual Report of Staff Development:
    The School Board approved the Annual Report on Staff Development.

    Annual Report on World's Best Workforce:
    The School Board approved the Annual Report on World's Best Workforce.  Click on the graphic to the right to download the report, which is also being distributed to all residences in the School District community during the month of October.

    Assurance of Compliance with State and Federal Law Prohibiting Discrimination:
    The School Board approved the Assurance of Compliance with State and Federal Law Prohibiting Discrimination. 

    Resignation of School Board Member Grant Nichols
    : The School Board accepted the resignation of School Board Member Grant Nichols, effective Tuesday, October 13, 2015.
