      2016 School Board
    Candidate Filing Period
    May 17 to May 31, 2016
     

    The period for filing affidavits for individuals interested in running as candidates for the Columbia Heights Public Schools' (CHPS) School Board begins Tuesday, May 17, 2016 and closes 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016. The election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016.

    There are three School Board positions open; individuals elected will serve terms of four years each. To qualify as a candidate must be, an individual must:

    • Be an eligible voter.
    • Be at least 21 years of age or more on assuming office.
    • Be a resident within the CHPS boundaries within thirty days before the general election.
    • Have no other affidavit on file for any other office at the same primary or next ensuing general election.
    • Not be employed by Columbia Heights Public Schools.

    Qualified individuals must complete all required candidate paperwork and a $2 filing fee at the District Center, 1440 49th Avenue NE, Columbia Heights.

    The District Center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Filing documents may be executed May 30, although filing offices will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday.

    Policies - 200 Series and 714 
    Chair John Larkin and School District Attorney Karen Kepple led an annual review of the 200 Series policies.
     
    Bridge Team recommendations
    Highland Elementary School Principal and Bridge Team Co-Chair Michele DeWitt, Bridge Team Co-Chair Mary-Rose Granlund and Director Holmgren presented the School Board with historical background, steps taken to date and recommendations. The School Board, in its charge, noted all costs will be fundraised with collaborative partners (no district funds incurred and that the plan for the site should require minimal maintenance).  Click here for the presentation.

    LEAP 
    Principal DeWitt and Interim Director of Teaching and Learning Zena Stenvik presented information on the LEAP gifted and talented pilot program at Highland Elementary School. Click here for the presentation.

    Columbia Heights Public School District highlights  
    Director of Communications Casey Mahon and Interim Director Stenvik provided a PowerPoint overview of a variety of highlights, including awards, schools, activities, athletics, arts and facilities, of this School District for the period 2014 to 2016. 


    May 17, 2016 Special Called Meeting

    CLOSED SESSION: In accordance with Minn. Stat. 13D.05, the Board Chair John Larkin adjourned to closed session for the purpose of discussing the Superintendent's Evaluation.
