      Acknowledgement of Contributions


    Chair John Larkin announced, and the School Board approved, a resolution for accepting current contributions in the amount of $10,376.53. The total fiscal year 2015-2016 monetary contributions to date are $93,788.48.

      Chair John Larkin led the June 14, 2016 Business Meeting and the June 21, 2016 Work Session. He attended the All America City conference in Denver, Colorado as a parent and observer. Larkin also participated in the 2016 Columbia Heights Jamboree Parade, attended the Columbia Heights Library grand opening and participated in two Iftar meals (served at the end of the day during Ramadan, to break the day's fast).
    • Vice Chair Laura Palmer participated in the June 14, 2016 Business Meeting and in a NE Metro Intermediate District 916 Board retreat. She participated in the 2016 Columbia Heights Jamboree Parade, the Employee of the Year reception and the School Board Chair meeting.
    • Treasurer Molly Lewis participated in the June 14, 2016 Business Meeting and the June 21, 2016 Work Session. She also attended the 2016 Columbia Heights Jamboree Parade, the Columbia Heights Library grand opening and the Employee of the Year reception.

    • Clerk Ted Landwehr participated in the June 14, 2016 Business Meeting and the June 21, 2016 Work Session. He participated in a West Metro Education Program Board meeting. Clerk Landwehr attended the Columbia Heights Library grand opening and participated in the 2016 Columbia Heights Jamboree Parade and ran a Boosters Club 5K race.

    • Director Naty Severson was not present to report.

    • Director Hala Asamarai participated in the June 21, 2016 Work Session and attended the Columbia Heights Jamboree Parade.

    • Superintendent Kathy Kelly participated in the June 14, 2016 Business Meeting and the June 21, 2016 Work Session. She attended the All America City Conference in Denver, Colorado and thanked all the members of the delegation with a special thanks to Dynamix Director Alex Jacques and the high school singers. The Superintendent also announced another Summer Academy, held at Columbia Heights Public Schools this month, finishes this week.
    Employee of the Year
    Columbia Academy Principal Duane Berkas (right) was recognized as the 2015-2016 Columbia Heights Public Schools' Employee of the Year. Berkas was nominated seven times and those who recommended him for the recognition cited his dedication to the District and Columbia Academy, strong work ethic, creative approach to unique situations, his attention to each of his employees and students and more.     Senate Resolution on Advance Placement Small District of the Year
    State Senator Barbara Goodwin presented the School Board with a Senate Resolution recognizing Columbia Heights Public Schools as the 2016 College Board Advance Placement Small District of the Year. Click here to read the press release announcing the award.

    Communications Plan Annual Update
    Communications Director Casey Mahon provided an informational overview of the District's four-year Comprehensive Communications Plan. Mahon reported out on the status of the nine action items, 40 strategies and 142 tactics currently being implemented. He also shared recognitions from the Minnesota Schools Public Relations Association (MinnSPRA) and the National Schools Public Relations Association (NSPRA). Click here for the presentation.     End-of-Year K-12 Activities Update
    K-12 Activities and Athletics Director Matt Miller provided the an update on K-12 activities. He shared information on Spring 2016 Activities, including Spotlight state-level awards, the choir performing at the Windy City Chorale Festival in Chicago and the Dynamix singers performing at the All America City awards ceremony in Denver. Director Miller also shared that the boys' tennis team made it to the state competition and that the Lacrosse team had its best season ever.     The School Board approved the annual membership renewal.
