    Acknowledgement of ContributionsChair John Larkin announced, and the School Board approved, a resolution for accepting current contributions in the amount of $11,330.77. The total fiscal year 2014-2015 monetary contributions to date is $41,146.13.

    Report highlights from the School Board acting on behalf of Columbia Heights Public Schools:

    • Chair Larkin participated in the Jan. 13, 2015 School Board Regular Business Meeting, the Jan. 20, 2015 Work Study Session and the
      Minnesota School Board Association (MSBA) Leadership Conference and workshops and meetings with Superintendent Kathy Kelly.
    • Vice-Chair Ted Landwehr participated in the Jan. 13, 2015 School Board Regular Business Meeting, the Jan. 20, 2015 Work Study Session and attended the MSBA Leadership Conference and workshops.

    • Clerk Lori Meyer participated in the Jan. 13, 2015 School Board Regular Business Meeting, the Jan. 20, 2015 Work Study Session, the MSBA Leadership Conference and workshops.
    • Treasurer Molly Lewis participated in the Jan. 13, 2015 School Board Regular Business Meeting, the Jan. 20, 2015 Work Study Session, the MSBA Phase II training and Leadership Conference and attended school boys' and girls' basketball games.

    • Director Laura Palmer participated in the Jan. 13, 2015 School Board Regular Business Meeting, the Jan. 20, 2015 Work Study Session, the MSBA Leadership Conference and workshop and had a conversation with Valley View Elementary School Principal Willie Fort.
    • Director Grant Nichols participated in the MSBA Phase II training, Jan. 13, 2015 School Board Regular Business Meeting, the Jan. 20, 2015 Work Study Session, attended a Robotics competition at Columbia Academy and had a tour of Columbia Heights High School.

    Superintendent Kathy Kelly's Report: 

    • Participated in the District Management Council (DMC) Superintendent Strategy Summit that focused on
      Academic Return on Investment.  Superintendent Kelly also participated in a DMC "mini-conference" working on the development of the process with a focus on the AVID program.

    • Attended in a NE Metro Intermediate District 916 Superintendent's Advisory Meeting with a focus on facility planning and also Special Education teachers.
    • Met with Teachers' Local 710 President Carl Lightbody in preparation for the Meet and Confer meeting.

    • Attended a West Metro Education Program Superintendent's meeting focusing on possible conveyance issues.

    • Met with Chair Larkin and Vice Chair Landwehr for agenda planning.

    • Noted that the District management team met to discuss budget planning for the 2015-2016 school year.

    Board Policies - First Reading: Sub-committee on Policy Chair Larkin presented the following polices

    • 205 - Open Meetings and Closed Meetings
    • 206 - Public Participation in School Board Meetings/Complaints about Persons at School Board Meetings and Data Privacy Considerations
    • 208 - Development, Adoption, and Implementation of Policies.

    These policies are available for input from the public (click on each number to review) and will be brought before the School Board for approval at a future Regular Business meeting. 


    Action Items  

    A. Discontinuance of Programs and Positions resolution The School Board approved the adoption of a resolution directing the Superintendent and District administration to consider the discontinuance of programs and positions to effectuate economies and efficiencies in Columbia Heights Public Schools and to reduce expenditures.

    B. West Metro Education Program (WMEP) resolution. The School Board approved a resolution to support the concept that WMEP cease to operate the FAIR School and work to transfer ownership of the building in Crystal to Robbinsdale Area Schools and the building in Minneapolis to Minneapolis Public Schools and for those districts to operate the schools as inter-district integration magnet schools.
