Chair John Larkin and the School Board recognized the District's Communications Department for earning three National Schools Public Relations Association (NSPRA) awards. The Department was recognized nationally for an Award of Merit for the Heights eNews! (internal employee newsletter) and an Award of Merit for the College and Career Guides and an Honorable Mention for the School Board Report. The Department includes Director of Communications Casey Mahon and Communications Specialist Lauryn Grimes. Read the full press release.

Director of Community Education Kristen Stuenkel, Director of Finance and Operations Bill Homgren and Director of Human Resources Lindsey Bennett provided information on the recent announcement from the Governor of Minnesota that starting with the 2016-2017 school year Columbia Heights Public Schools will receive more than $1 million to provide free voluntary pre-kindergarten programming. Strategic Direction E: Tell our Story
Director of Technology and Security Services Bryan Hennekens, Director of Community Education and Director of Communications Casey Mahon provided the annual Strategic Roadmap on Direction E. Start of the School Year Activities
Director of Teaching and Learning Zena Stenvik Director of Teaching and Learning Zena Stenvik reported on activities for staff and teachers in preparation for the 2016-2017 school year. Each year prior to the beginning of school, staff and teachers prepare for the new year through training, workshops, presentations, recognitions and awards, including student involvement (click on picture of Highland Elementary School students leading last year's Pledge of Allegiance). Long-Term Facilities Maintenance Revue
Director Holmgren provided an annual update on long-term facilities maintenance projects.
Authorized Persons for Morgan Stanley Account
Director Holmgren briefed the School Board that due to a resignation in the Business Department, the new Manager of Accounting Services will need to be authorized for the Morgan Stanley account.
Director Holmgren briefed the School Board about outstanding lunch balances.
