“Erin epitomizes the essence of what the Teacher of the Year is,” said President of Local 710 Daniel Honigs. “She strives to educate all of her students by digging down deep and finding not only what motivates them, but also which stumbling blocks might pose barriers to their learning. Erin’s dedication to the teaching profession and to the students of Columbia Heights place her into an elite category of teachers.”
Edwardson Stern has taught at the high school for 17 years. She currently teaches AP US History, American History and AVID 11. She received her Bachelor of Science in History from Iowa State University and earned a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning from St. Mary’s University.
“I am honored to receive this award. I love working with Columbia Heights students who inspire me to work hard to create a supportive and rigorous classroom environment,” said Edwardson Stern. “I am also privileged to work with incredible educators who are role models of dynamic and engaging teaching. To be nominated and chosen by these peers makes this award all the more meaningful to me.”
"We are all incredibly proud of Erin and of this well-deserved recognition,” said CHHS Principal Dan Wrobleski. “She is an amazing example of passion and dedication; she builds strong relationships with students and sees a high level of academic achievement as a result. She is an asset to our school.
“Erin Edwardson Stern is the perfect choice for the 2017 Columbia Heights Public Schools Teacher of the Year,” said Superintendent Kathy Kelly. “She is an Advanced Placement teacher with extraordinary skills and I believe she exemplifies why Columbia Heights High School was selected to the Sixth Annual AP District Honor Roll. Ms. Edwardson Stern had devoted her time, effort and energy in preparing students to be college and career-ready and in this she does an outstanding job!”
With her selection, Edwardson Stern will represent this school district for the 2018 Minnesota Teacher of the Year award.
