  Welcome to Central Middle School

Central Middle School is a dynamic place for students in grades six, seven, and eight to learn. We have a diverse student population from all over the world, and we seek to develop the whole child through academics, arts, and enrichment.

The academic day is organized to focus on core classes, yet features time to explore interests through electives. Advanced students are stretched through Pre Advanced Placement classes in English, Science, and Social Studies. Several different math pathways are available for students, including opportunities for advanced students to earn high school credit in algebra 1 and geometry. Students learning the English language are supported in their core academic classes through a team teaching approach between an ELL teacher and a content area teacher. We have courses designed specifically to support language development for the ELL student. Middle school students receiving special education services are integrated into the regular classroom whenever possible, while recognizing that a mix of inclusion and specialized education may be needed.

We offer elective classes in visual art, computers, engineering, theatre, band, choir, music technology, physical education, media arts.  Students may take Spanish classes at all three grade levels. Sixth grade students have a nine week introduction to Spanish. In seventh grade, Spanish is a single semester class, and eighth grade students can take the Spanish for a full year for high school credit.

After school hours, the ENCORE program features exploratory classes in the area of math, science, art, theatre, team sports, technology, film, literature, and aviation. ENCORE class offerings change each semester. Our students are also involved in musical groups, Destination Imagination, Future Problem Solving, music groups, academic contests and projects outside of regular school hours.

Students interested in sports may participate in volleyball, football, basketball, baseball, and softball at Central Middle School. For all other sports, students play and practice in a blended group with the high school teams.
